Tutorial: Doll Bedding {by The Crafty Kitty)

Once again, Stephanie of the Crafty Kitty, delights us with this magical tutorial for doll bedding.  We love how simple and flattering this look is.  And what a special gift for a special little girl!  

We have two of the Ikea Duktig Doll beds, and I thought it was high time, I made the kids some special home made bedding to go with them! I'm going to show you how to make a mattress, pillow and quilt, with this doll bedding tutorial. I used prints from the Birch Fabrics' Ipanema range. I love the versatility of these prints. Keep your look bold by using the prints on their own, or mix them up with a plain organic fabric, for a more muted look!

Seam allowances are 1/4" unless otherwise stated.

Mattress Supplies

• two, 12" x 19" pieces†Ipanema Main Teal
• Organic Cotton Sewing Thread

Step one. Put the two pieces of fabric right sides facing and sew around the edge. Leaving a 4" gap on the bottom edge.

Step two. Iron the seam allowance away from the opening and top stitch around this opening. Clip corners. Turn right side out and stuff with the mattress from the Ikea set.

Pillow Supplies

• FQ Organic Cotton/Organic Linen Blend Fabric
• FQ Ipanema Main Blue
• FQ Rio Geo Pool†(use remainder of FQ for the quilt)
• Organic Cotton Sewing Thread

Step one. Cut†10" x 6", 7" x 6", from Ipanema Main Blue.†Using†triangle template†cut five, from organic cotton/organic linen blend and four, from Rio Geo Pool.
Step two. Sew the triangles together.

Step three. Sew the pieced fabric to the 7" x 6" piece of Ipanema Main Blue

Step four. Place the pieced pillow top right sides facing the 10" x 6" piece of Ipanema Main Blue. Sew around the pillow leaving a 3" gap on the short end made up of Ipanema Main Blue.

Step five. Iron the seam allowance away from the opening and top stitch around this opening. Clip corners. Turn pillow case right side out and stuff with the pillow from the Ikea set.

 

Quilt Supplies

• FQ Rio Geo Sun
• FQ Rio Geo Pool
• 20" x 20"†Organic Cotton/Organic Linen Blend Fabric
• Organic Cotton Sewing Thread
• 18.5" x 18.5" Eco-friendly wadding/batting (I like to use dream green recycled wadding or pellon eco-cotton batting)

Step one. Using†triangle template cut four from organic cotton/organic linen blend, one from rio geo pool, and two from rio geo sun. Step two. Sew together triangles, alternating between print and plain triangle. Step three. Pin together the backing fabric, wadding/batting and quilt top.

 

Step four.  Quilt using straight lines, along the edge of the plain triangles. I co-ordinated my thread with the patterned triangles.

 

Step five. Fold Edge of backing fabric towards quilt top and then fold over on top of quilt top, so that raw edge is concealed. I like to try and make, what I affectionately call: 'vaguely mitred corners'. Top stitch or use a blind stitch to attach the binding to the quilt top.
