Blog Hop & Free PDF Pattern | Retro Apron by The Crafty Kitty

On Day 5 of the Homestead Blog Hop, we get the honor of hosting our close friend Stephanie, The Crafty Kitty herself!  Today she is offering us all a free pattern for this unbelievably cute retro apron!  You'll be picture perfect in the kitchen while wearing this cutie.  Check it out!  

This retro apron pattern features a sweetheart neckline, half circle skirt and finishes above the knee with contrasting bias binding and ties.

 One size fits most! Apron is 27” wide and 28” from top of bodice to bottom of skirt.

Supplies

• 1.5 yards Harvest Poplin
• 0.5 yard Clouds Mint
• Free retro apron pattern PDF*

Preparation

• Pre-wash/shrink fabric
• Trace/cut out pattern
• Cut pattern pieces out from fabric.
• Make 36" of 1/2" single fold bias tape and 161" of 1/2" double fold bias tape

Instructions
Seam allowances are 1/4” unless otherwise specified

Step 1
Place neck strap pieces right sides facing (RSF) and sew the two long edges.

Step 2
Turn neck strap right side out, press and top stitch.

Step 3
Pin neck strap to wrong side of bodice and baste in place.

Step 4
Finish bodice with 1/2” double fold bias tape, leaving the waist unfinished. Press neck strap away from bodice and top stitch to secure.

Step 5
Sew side skirt panels to the central skirt panel wrong sides facing (WSF) trim and press seams open.

Step 6
Finish seams with 1/2” single fold bias tape wrapped around the raw edges and top stitched flat.

Step 7
Finish side and bottom of skirt with 1/2” double fold bias tape.

Step 8
Sew two side waist ties to either side of a centre tie, repeat to create the back of the tie and press seams only. Sandwich the skirt between the front and back of the tie. Align centre of tie with notch and the joins of the tie with the edges of the skirt. Sew around one end of the tie, along the skirt and around the other end of the tie. Leaving the top of the centre tie open.

Step 9
Align the notch on the bodice with the centre of the front waist tie and sew in place.

Step 10
Turn the ends of the tie right side out and press the tie flat with the remaining seam allowances pressed to the wrong side.

Step 11
Top stitch all the way around the waist tie.

I tried mine out by baking cakes with my daughter, who loved my apron so much she asked for one of her own.
